Download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from http://malwarebytes.org/ and scan your computer. They should be able to remove it with the free version. Otherwise, you might have to shell out only $25 for the full version.

Are you trying to upgrade to windows 7 or doing a full install from booting to the DVD? if you’re booting to the Disk, then it’s not a virus because they don’t affect your computer at the bios level. If you’re upgrading and running the setup from another version of windows then you can try malwarebytes. http://www.malwarebytes.org
Additional notes: The free version of Malwarebytes uses the same definitions as the paid version, so if the paid version can remove viruses so can the free version. Only thing is that the paid version has real-time protection and the free version doesn’t. But it’s a very good anti-virus program so if you think you have a virus use it to remove it.

Hi, AB!
Sounds unlikely that a virus would not let your computer read the disk, unless you are trying it in the OS (under the existing Windows version, for example). Can you try to boot from the installation disk? You might have an option during power-up for that, alternatively there is a simple setting in BIOS to force boot from CD/DVD. Another thing – is the disk you are using a tested, installation disk? Just double-check you have the right media and that it works.
One last thing, Malwarebytes Anti-malware is indeed a good idea on software to have on your computer. It works with Windows 7, and yes – the free version has the same signatures database.
But the paid one is well worth the price, since it can run updates and scans on a schedule and it also has a realtime protection module with IP blocker, preventing malware from entering protected computers. You can save on the full price with a Malwarebytes coupon code shared by other users on http://news.dtcdeals.com/malwarebytes-coupon-code – the latest gives 20% off the website price. Good luck!

It very much depends on what type of malware you are infected with, it may not be a virus or a worm, there are many forms of malware that mess with a pc. virus,worm, trojan, spyware, and other malwares may have re-written some registry values so that your drive no longer reads. I can offer the following advice taken from one of my articles if it is any help – There are 3 ways you can scan for errors.
1. You can use the windows registry error scanner.
2. You can try using a free registry scanner/cleaner.
3. You can spend a small amount of money buying a decent registry repair tool.
Using the windows registry tool is useful as a starting point but it doesn’t provide a report of what registry errors there were or whether it has fixed them all. It also requires you to insert your windows disc – which for some is not an option. In general it does seem to correct some minor .dll file is missing errors, but having used the built in tool following a nasty virus attack – it was unable to fix the errors and I was forced to use a temporary fix that is an absolute "no-no", I used a download a .dll file website. Never do this, it is extremely risky and can be loaded with a virus.
Whilst downloading and using a free registry repair tool can be a useful short term solution, whichever program you use will never do a comprehensive enough job – after all what would be the point of the software owner allowing you to utilize their program 100% and not have to pay for an upgraded version?
By far the only way you have a chance of truly fixing all of, or enough of the errors to solve registry related problems is to spend those few dollars on a decent repair program. You can see which one I find to be the best on the review pages.
here is another of my articles – How many times since you purchased your computer have you seen an annoying message like – "blah-blah" .DLL file is missing or corrupt, unable to open file/program. I’ll bet that if you’ve had a nasty virus, hardware crash, software crash or something similar – you almost certainly have had an error like this at least once. This is down to the windows registry.
In all programs and files there are files called .DLL files. DLL stands for dynamic link library. What this essentially is – is an area in the windows files which stores specific files that are commonly needed by more than one application/program. Before the DLL library was invented, you could only run one thing at a time, but with the "shared" DLL library more than one application/program is able to access the same DLL file at the same time.
You will no doubt have noticed that some programs and software’s warn you during their uninstaller that there is a possibly shared file that may be deleted as part of the uninstall process. It is usually best to leave these files intact as; speaking from personal experience, there have been odd occasions when other things have gone wrong after I’d fully uninstalled some software. Part of the reason why so many people get frequent .DLL errors is due to the fact that so many different things can be accessing and using the same .DLL at the same time – including spyware and viruses!
So you can try the internal registry repair first, go to start/run, type in – cmd, when the command window opens type in – Help, a list of command functions comes up, type in – CHKDSK name of your drive /F for Example: CHKDSK C: /F
for those who say it cannot be malware – I have had malware that deleted my media drive so that windows did not read it as a drive!

The best ways to deal with a virus is either a System Recovery, or install windows again. No anti-virus will completely remove a virus once it’s in your computer
System Recovery- when you turn on your computer there will be a screen saying something like:
F1=Setup
F2=Boot Menu
F10= System Recovery
Press and hold the system recovery button (it may be different for your computer)
and follow the simple steps. This will 100% remove the viruses but also any saved files, pictures, videos, documents etc. So back up the important ones or any you want to keep (use a USB key or an external hard drive)
