Downloading music player causes malware, trojans, and computer crash?

So, at work, the main computer crashed after a lot of BS involving adware, and malware (specifically the so-called "Anti-virus knight" or some such thing). Anyway, according to this computer repair guy, the last thing that happened on that computer before the chaos was someone downloading a music player. Any idea what happened? What this music player might have been? Advice?

Apparently the computer is beyond repair and needs to be completely wiped. Joy.
