I’m not computer savy so can anyone help please? What is the diffrence Security Vulnerability versus Exploit?

Please Explain to me the difference between security vulnerability and an exploit. Please give an example. Thank you i really appreciated

A basic security vulnerability could be something like using a simple password, like 12345, and an exploit would be opening an unknown email, downloading an attachment and then executing it without knowing what it was… the latter could then steal your passwords and send them to whoever sent you the exploit.

It would also depend on where your computer was based, for example if you used a machine in an internet cafe it would be unwise to do your online banking there as someone could easily install a key logger to log all key strokes, then later ‘they’ could use that machine and check the log and get your pass codes, again a very simple method.

If you had a home pc that was used solely by yourself it would depend on what sites you browse to a degree…. In general if you use your common sense situations like this are easily avoidable.

If you buy stuff online use either your credit card (as it should have insurance) or a pay service like paypal, who offer payment protection on verified buyers/sellers.

Never give out your user names or pass codes to anyone or service.

I use my laptop everyday and every time, it will freeze and a few lines of white barcode on a blue background appear.

After about 5 seconds, the computer will restart and this gets so annoying! Is there anyway to fix this? My laptop is almost 1 year old.

Help with saving pictures on a Mac computer?

I have a Mac computer and I was trying to save pictures from the internet to my computer. I wanted to use tinypic to get the code so I can put pictures on my myspace but I don’t know how to save pictures from the internet to the computer. I tried using save page and then putting the file in pictures but it doesn’t work. I’m trying to save it on Mozilla Firefox. Plz help!

Hello Jaqueline,

Usually you simply move your mouse pointer up to the graphic inside your web browser, that you want, hold down on the mouse button (or the trackpad button) and drag the picture over to your desktop and drop it.

Some graphics refuse to be taken. If this is the case, I’ve got a little trick for you. Inside of your Utilities folder is a program called Grab. Launch that. Then, you go up to the Capture > Selection menu command. Now move the mouse arrow to the top-left corner of the graphic and drag to the bottom-right of the graphic, so the whole graphic is covered and then left off the button. This will grab the graphic from your display. Then use the File > Save As… menu command to save the graphic to something you want.

Now, as far as sending a picture to MySpace, you can post the pictures inside your pictures file, but I’m guessing that you want the pictures somewhere else, like when you post comments and signatures or inside messages. In these cases, you need to use HTML code to point the graphic from another web site.

In this case you start up an account with photo places such as photobucket.com. You can post the graphics and photos there, and they have built in HTML codes that you can copy and paste into your messages. This puts the graphic up inside your messages, signatures, etc.

Best of luck.

My Girlfriend is going to be excited when I give her a Movado Ladies Esperanza Quartz Two-Tone for Valentine’s Day

My girlfriend and I have been dating for the past three years. I really feel like she is the one that I would like to spend the rest of my life with. I wanted to give her something special for Valentine’s Day this year, but I really didn’t have any idea what to give her. The other day she mentioned that she really would like to have a new watch. She had been looking at some in a catalogue with a friend of hers. She likes the Movado Watches. She saw watch that really caught her eye. the Movado Esperanza Quartz. She just couldn’t bring herself to pay over $1,300 for a watch no matter how nice it is. I decided to start looking online to see what I could find. I ran across a site www.bluedial.com that had great prices and lots of variety. They had the watch that I was looking for, the Movado Esperanza Quartz.
This watch is part of the Esperanza collection. The watch is made of stainless steel with an open link bracelet. The black dial with the silver tone hands and concave dot really has a classic look to it. This watch has quality construction. It is water resistant up to 30 meters and is backed by a 12 months limited warranty. The great thing was the price. On www.bluedial.com the price was less than $800. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I couldn’t get my credit card out fast enough. I can’t wait to see her face on Valentine’s Day.

What could be the reason for Windows Update/other Windows support things to not work?

I have an HP laptop bought in Oct. (Artist Edition)

Windows "fails" to update or the page "fails" to load since mid-December. There are other things concerning my Vista that don’t work, like HP Support Assistant, Defragment, etc. Otherwise, it runs programs fine, no viruses, etc.

Before I use my recovery discs to reinstall everything, does anyone know why? Is it Vista itself? Or could I have done something wrong? I’ve studied computers before and thought I was taking care of it well.

This is my college laptop, I transport downloaded material via USB.
The system is slow on startup. If I call HP tech support (1 year warranty) I’m afraid they may say to send it back….and I need my baby for college :(

My first question would be – is your computer copy of Vista Registered – or is a balloon coming up telling you to validate or something like that ? Just being a little over three mos. old – that very well may Be……and when you received it it was not ‘registered’, activated, validated and the expired copy of Vista is still Yours – just go thru the steps to validate it. But that doesn’t account at all – for defrag – (and in Vista it Does look and carry out very Differently than XP did !!!),

The HP stuff I have no idea – but it certainly sounds like you have some sort of Conflicts going on inside the system. I had to totally (by microsoft instruction by email ) have to uninstall and clean, reboot and go one by one to get my updates once because one .NET framework update had failed and blocked the rest from going smoothly….but I really think that was an isolated incident.
I would not be afraid to telephone HP – unless the tech got particularly stubborn with you and refused to go thru ANY troubleshootin – goodness knows – you don’t pay for that warranty to Not use it !! AND….even if they’d ‘say’ to ‘send it back’ – what are they gonna do, dear , come to your door and forcefully Take it……..NO. So, you would have had whatever troubleshooting support From manufacturer – and then still can completely go forward and explore options such as these forums.
There are also wonderful comm. forums just like this at the HP website and you only need your machines Model/serial number to find all Their paperwork About your machine right there.
The slowness booting up could be a whole bunch of programs starting up at the same time. Those can be adjusted.
Good luck.
